If you want the real story of how the show went, here it is.
Timing Was Always Going to Be Tough
The British Shooting Show has long been criticised for its February slot. Miserable weather, wallets still recovering from Christmas, and a general post-festive spending hangover are not exactly ideal conditions for a high-ticket retail event.
This year added another wrinkle. Valentine’s Day weekend.
Now, while certain anti-relationship veterans didn’t seem too bothered by that, they also weren’t exactly throwing cash around either. Attendance? Yes. Spending? A different story.
Friday was reportedly “record-breaking” in footfall according to organisers. Most retailers we spoke to didn’t feel that translated into record-breaking sales. Saturday and Sunday saw strong range attendance, but retail sales were softer across the board.
The Bigger Story: Ownership Change
A few days before the show opened, Gun Trade Insider reported that the British Shooting Show had been sold to Time Well Spent Media Group.
On paper, this could be positive. A major media group responsible for the publications of the aforementioned Gun Trade Insider Magazine and Airgun World, running the UK’s largest shooting expo could elevate its reach and influence.
Privately, though, exhibitors have concerns:
Will stand prices increase to offset acquisition costs?
Will logistical management suffer during the transition?
Will February remain the chosen month?
From conversations with hall staff, it appears the intended shadowing of the outgoing team during build and breakdown did not fully happen. That has raised eyebrows.
Publicly, many exhibitors will say they “had a great show.” Internally, reservations exist. Some stands are already considering not returning in 2027.
We’re not naming names. Just managing expectations. If some of your favourite brands don’t return next year, this may be why.

First-timer at the show (10:00 am Friday) lots to see and take in, however when looking back much was repeated on stall after stall. Obviously the "big names" had a huge presence and lots of interesting kit, however I was unable to obtain one of the items I wanted to purchase - an inexpensive, decent 'red dot'. Not even Vector Air had them on their stand. I realise that it might be down to the simple 'cost of logistics' when it comes down to the exhibitors choosing which items they stock but it did leave me somewhat disappointed.
I wholly agree with one comment that identifies the lumping together in one hall of; Shotguns / Air rifles / High-end rifles…
Always a Family day out, two Sons and Grandson, travel about two and half hours to get to the NEC, great this year sunshine all the way. We cover all types of shooting, air, rim fire, centre fire and shotgun there was something for all of us. We find it a Great Day out. Bought a few guns and extras, some with a good discount. All shows are not cheap now what with ticket and refreshment prices, what does not cost a lot more these days, we cannot live in the past. If we want shows then we must support them and the traders that take time away from their shops and at a cost to make the shows wort…
The reason I have not visited the Shooting Show for the past 3 years is because I don’t like the N.E.C as the venue. The ticket prices are also a Rip Off. As for the food outlets, they are so seriously overpriced and don’t offer Value For Money in any way, shape or form. As another poster stated £2.50 for a Bottle of Water proves my point
I personally don’t think you get any good deals
And personally would prefer to spend the entry fee at vector air or other
I attended on Saturday arriving around 10am to avoid the 9am queue. Got handed a programme as I walked in. Found a quiet spot to take a look at the map inside so as to easily locate the stands I was interested in. First port of call was the DNT optics stand to check out the new Zulus 4K tubed scope. Next was the Brocock stand to check out the ghost and then I headed over to the Form stocks stand where I bought a couple of very nice AR style grips in Turkish walnut. Finally off to the ranges for a quick chat with Andy. He had just shown me a thermal spotter when someone off your stand came…
