Another Icon Falls: The Walther RM8 Comes to an End

Well… here we go again.

First, the Walther Reign M2 quietly gets shown the door, and now its more traditional sibling, the Walther RM8, is following it out.

Not exactly what you’d call a win for the industry.

The RM8: The “No-Brainer” Recommendation

The RM8 has always been one of those rifles we recommend without hesitation.

Well… almost without hesitation.

Yes, it’s a bit on the heavier side. Yes, it leans more toward benchrest than running around a field all day. Yes, it’s still rocking a dovetail rail in a world obsessed with Picatinny.

But beyond that?

It’s been one of the best value accuracy platforms on the market for years.

• A regulated PCP platform

• And most importantly, a Lothar Walther barrel

All in a package that didn’t require you to remortgage the house.

Why This Loss is Important

The RM8, much like the Reign, sits in that sweet spot that’s becoming increasingly rare.

Affordable. Accurate. No nonsense.

With both rifles now heading out, we’re looking at a market where this level of performance is steadily creeping into the £1000+ bracket.

Which is great if you’ve got that kind of money lying around. Less great if you don’t.
