Opinel néo6 (neo6) OPIFLEX Black Walnut EDC Folding Knife
The Opinel néo6 OPIFLEX Black Walnut is a compact, lightweight everyday carry knife designed around simplicity, practicality and easy handling. With its 70 mm rounded-tip blade and non-locking OPIFLEX® mechanism, it makes a particularly useful option for everyday tasks where a full-sized folding knife would be unnecessary.
The rounded blade tip is a deliberate part of the design, giving the néo6 a less aggressive profile while still providing a useful cutting edge for opening packaging, preparing food, cutting cord and general everyday jobs.
The blade is made from Sandvik 12C27 modified martensitic stainless steel, a European stainless steel chosen by Opinel for its combination of corrosion resistance, mechanical performance and ability to take and maintain a good working edge. At 55-57 HRC, it offers a practical balance between edge retention, toughness and ease of sharpening.
The OPIFLEX® blade retention system is what makes the néo6 different from a conventional locking folder. The mechanism holds the blade securely in both the open and closed positions without actually locking the blade in place. Opening and closing is smooth and intuitive, while the absence of a locking mechanism makes the knife suitable for UK users looking for a non-locking EDC folder, subject to the usual UK knife laws and restrictions.
The handle is made from Oiled Black Walnut wood, giving each knife its own individual grain pattern. Walnut is a naturally dense hardwood with a dark brown tone and often subtle grain. The oil helps protect the handle from moisture and dirt while giving it a smooth finish.
A genuine leather lanyard is fitted to the end of the handle, providing a convenient way to carry or hang the knife and adding a traditional touch to an otherwise modern design.
At just 30 g including the lanyard, the néo6 is small enough to disappear into a pocket while still providing a useful 70 mm cutting blade.
